- jaggederest 5y agoIf you don't think Bluetooth is nigh unto magic, what is? Imagine explaining it to someone from even 30 years ago.
- HPsquared 5y agoComputer programming in general is akin to magic. It's literally in the realm of "say the magic words in the correct order, and things will happen".
- azinman2 5y agoI’m actually surprised there wasn’t similar wireless headphones previously that were just pure analog FM radio. Seems very doable with older technology, save battery size/weight.
- ChrisClark 5y agoThere definitely was. You could get them for your home stereo, not phones.
- mcast 5y agoThe headphones would probably weigh a ton and only last 1-2 hours from the heavy ni-cad batteries of the 90s.
- HPsquared 5y agoThose exist and have the major advantage of zero audio latency which is good for interoperability (think a TV headphone port). The disadvantage (in my cheap ones at least) is poorer sound quality, especially the amount of background hiss, short range and susceptibility to interference (no error correction).
- meepmorp 5y ago"Believe it or not, despite 30 years and billions of dollars up for grabs, wireless headphones are pretty much gonna be ass."
