There is monetary value being first and rolling out new features that generate news which attracts new users. Once a user is hooked more difficult for them to leave. Also it's a lot easier now to issue a patch/update over the internet instead of send out CDs etc. There really isn't and good reason to be as bullet proof as possible as there used to be unfortunately. This is especially true the bigger a company gets, nobody is leaving apple/Google over a bug.
- soco 5y agoIt is a lot easier to ship a patch, yet it's still not done, even for very basic pieces of software. Think about the dumpster fire called printer drivers, be it HP or Epson, or the entire print spooler concept of Windows. I would be ashamed to put such garbage on my CV, yet it all lives on since decades.
