The Chinese Room
- Comevius 5y agoI never liked philosophy. The problem with the Chinese room is the same as with consciousness. It's definition is a hotchpotch of magical qualities, then basically you show that a giant mill or computer can't be used to build it. The good news is that we don't have magical qualities, so we can be produced in factories. The bad news is that the computers we have today are not really great, insect brains are more up to our speed, or will be eventually. Although there is a moral quandary, whether subjecting mass produced brains to torture for fun is bad, or who cares if they are not important brains. Like is it totally cool if those brains are not connected to our society? But maybe they need to be connected to function, even if their initial connectedness is bootstrapped in a factory. But then what if it's the copy of someone, is torturing your copies cool, because society don't need a dozen of you?
