I mean, would you say the "we've lost the drug war" falls into that rhetorical technique? Is that just saying "everyone has to adapt so the pot industry can make money?" Or "pandemics are inevitable, we can't contain them, so everyone has to adapt so the pharma industry can make money?" Seems like calling out that form as a "rhetorical technique" is not useful in determining the quality of the argument.
