The biggest problem is the labelling of anything outside the 'consensus' as unscientific 'misinformation.'
This is particularly problematic where it is the media and government representatives determining what is consensus.
Many scientific breakthroughs did not come from repeating the established consensus and a lot of scientific consensus has been horrifically wrong in the end.
