Poaching would be the more correct word to use.
- kragen 5y agoThat's literally dehumanizing. You're reducing human beings to game animals, and you're analogizing giving them a lot of money to shooting them dead and butchering them. From whose perspective is that a sensible analogy? Only someone who thinks the employees are, or should be, their chattels.
- Jailbird 5y agoThe word poach can be used more generally.
- kragen 5y agoYes, any word can be used metaphorically. I just don't like the metaphor in this case.
- tartoran 5y agoPoaching is used across the industry for workforce quite commonly
- kragen 5y agoYes, there are a lot of people who disagree with me about that metaphor because they do think of employees as livestock. I wasn't saying it's an uncommon opinion. I was saying it's a deplorable one.
- tartoran 5y agoIt is an ugly metaphor but since it’s commonly used it was sortof accepted
