I understand the standard emergency procedure for cardiac arrest is to do chest compressions to pump the heart by hand and force high-oxygen air into the lungs. The high oxygen tiggers many cells to spontaneously die.
I think this device restores blood flow and oxygen slowly to prevent triggering cell death. It's essentially a heart & lung machine programmed for resuscitation.
Could we get a similar result with CPR and a ventilator that controls the blood oxygen level? This would be cheaper, simpler to use, and more reliable machinery. It would also be less invasive for patients who don't have heart damage, such as drowning victims. Is precise blood temperature control necessary for this kind of resuscitation?
