When it happens to girl babies, it is Female Genital Mutilation. It gets all caps. When it happens to boy babies, it is "just circumcision." Routine. Ignored. Given that it happens in the first week of your life, and before 1982 without any kind of even local anesthetic, try to imagine that your first experience of having any attention paid to your genitals, a nerve-rich area if there ever was one, being strapped to a "Circumstraint" board and having a portion of said genitals simply razored off. Might that result in trauma? It's an interesting question to ask.
