Just as an aside I'd like to mention that if the CTO shopping on the job and not reviewing any of your work is the worst employment experience you've ever had, you should count yourself as lucky still. It's certainly not a great environment, but nothing you've mentioned so far sounds tragically awful, just mildly disappointing. It's a workers market right now, you could easily leave to find an environment with more engaged coworkers if you wanted.
