macOS 12.3 will break cloud-storage features used by Dropbox and OneDrive
- warning26 5y agoI tried downloading Dropbox's beta client (which switches to Apple's new APIs to get around this) and it's a disaster; the CPU usage of fileproviderd would stay at around 150% until I removed Dropbox altogether. This is, of course, Apple's fault for getting their API wrong and then forcing everyone to switch to their broken solution.
- howinteresting 5y agoCorrect. This is Apple competing unfairly and deciding to make all third-party clients as bad as iCloud.
- hammyhavoc 5y agoWow. Just sounds like another reason to switch to Linux and not be subjected to changes outside of your control.
- creatonez 5y agoYou are subjected to changes outside your control with Linux too. Have you noticed that you are unable to scroll in the Linux tty console anymore, as of 2020? Have you noticed that you're no longer able to use bitmapped bdf fonts in any application that uses libpango, as of 2019? You could bring them back by editing source code, but much like the Chromium extension manifest changes, the rest of the code quickly becomes incompatible with the old way of doing things.
- howinteresting 5y agoThe difference is that power users tend to have a lot more sway over Linux.
- egberts1 5y agowont use any of them cloud providers. But if they plug into NextCloud/ownCloud, then they got me and about 2 million other homelab users.
- thibautg 5y agoI was worried that OneDrive would not work correctly anymore. I've just checked and it works as expected. Click on "Always Keep on this Device" to keep a local copy of some files. The only difference is that the OneDrive shortcut in Finder is now under Locations instead of Favourites. It may be annoying for people needing to re-download all their local content though.
- phoenixag 5y agoUnfortunately, you cannot do this in the main OneDrive folder and have it propagate down to other folders. So to download other folders within the first root folder in OneDrive, you would have to go and individually click and choose Always Keep On Device on every one of them.
