Revelation mentions the destroyers of the earth as one of those vanquished by God.
Pollution can last millennia. Future generations may curse upon this one for spoiling the earth.
I saw the article about shells carbon capture plant shell game and it kind of reminds me of the common sense arguments against ethanol for fuel.
Environmentalism is a little like feel goodism for the insignificant things we do on an individual level.
But big ideas can make a difference.
I thought of this today; To solve the questions surrounding our impact on the oceans' decreasing ph levels since industrialization began and whatever impact increasing levels of carbon dioxide are having while not having a great deal of impact on the consumption of energy:
First stage:
Sodium metal production from sodium chloride waste streams from desalinization plants. Byproduct: High quality drinking water.
First stage waste cycle:
the byproduct is Chlorine. Some of this is useful as is but there are huge surpluses of it. It would have the effect of making chlorine basically a much lower cost commodity. And what is not used is converted into something inert and benign like artificial chlorite and used for pavement or whatever.
Second stage:
The desalinization plant requires an electric plant to run. The exhaust gasses are fed into a chamber that combines the sodium metal with the oxygen and carbon in carbon dioxide to make bicarbonate of soda and oxygen gas. Oxygen gas can be collected for industrial uses.
Second stage waste cycle:
Bicarbonate can be released into the ocean with no ill effects as long as it it's ph is being diminished faster than it is increased in the status quo.
This isn't a fit all solution but it would be very useful in places that have little fresh water to drink and have a lot of waste salt they have to get rid of. Saudi Arabia comes to mind.
