Molds aren't cheap, but as someone who've been around while F0 was created it's not that imo. It's setting up the pipeline, shitty PCBs in batches of hundreds, fuckups with parts, etc. If you do a couple of prototypes it's fine. If you want to make a thousand or two, you are in a world of pain.
