Call me strange, but if I buy such a thing then I'd like to make sure it's held to some standard of accuracy and safety. I do not have the resources or knowledge to find this out myself. Most people don't, and you can't just rely on "internet reviews" or the like. Someone has to do this, and while the FDA and government authority may not be perfect, they're the best we've got, and we can at least somewhat hold them accountable through the democratic process (which also isn't perfect, but better than anything else we've got).
