I think Zuckerberg's "Metaverse" is going to be remembered as one of the biggest flops in tech history. Still think it's stupid how they took naming inspiration from Ready Player One, which IMO was a very generic, subpar, low brow story. That being said, I really hope some major open source innovations and standards come out of this project for VR and AR hardware and software. The biggest barrier to these technologies IMO is hardware, so any innovations here are welcomed in my eyes, even if initially developed as part of a failed project.
