tsc is a large JavaScript program run at the command line, which is a pathological case for a JIT-compiled language: by the time the hot spots get native code generated, tsc may be close to finished already. Porting it to any ahead-of-time compiled language, without significant changes to the structure of the code, is likely to be a big performance win.
