The thing is now the only way to access that linked paywalled article is to subscribe to the publication, there in no way to pay to read only that particular article.
- jjulius 5y agoBut why would that even need targeted advertising? There's literally nothing that stops publishers, media outlets, magazines/journals, etc. from charging per article right now.
- mrkramer 5y agoThere is nothing that stops Google and Facebook to stop showing ads and instead move to subscription business model. Without right incentives status quo will remain.
- SahAssar 5y agoGoogle and facebook are not content producers, their incentives and business model will not be the same.
- mrkramer 5y agoFor example YouTube did the good thing and they introduced YouTube Premium[0] which is ad-free YouTube subscription plus other perks. [0] https://www.youtube.com/premium https://www.youtube.com/premium
- jjulius 5y agoThere is a subset of people who don't want to subscribe to a publication but would be happy to pay per-article. All a publication needs to do is say, "Hey, wanna read this? Click here to pay X amount!". I'm not sure why Google/Facebook/advertising even need to enter the conversation here.

Click here to pay X amount!". That's exactly what I'm saying. >I'm not sure why Google/Facebook/advertising even need to enter the conversation here. Because I like to experiment with business models and because I wanted to show you that established business models don't change that easily.
- SahAssar 5y agoWhy is the current lack of micropayments for content at all connected to publishers lack of being able to track my interests?
