23andMe had devastating news about my health (2019)
- gardenfelder 5y agoI get her story. It's the same as lots of others who get similarly unhappy results, but who don't fly off the handle and write about it with all manner of emotional adjectives. The flip side of the coin lies in the unknown: without that warning, where would she be today? The vigilance theory of immunology has it that our bodies are constantly having all manner of genetic accidents, many of which are benign, some of which, over time, evolve to be cancers; the immune system is constantly watching for those accidents. 23&me and other sources provide eyes on the situation we otherwise don't have. Bad stuff happens. IMHO, far better to be warned as far in advance as possible. It's hardly worth click-bait headlines; the flip side is increased obituaries.
