To add my own perspective: I was running some analytics batch job on Node and hit this limit, had to add multi-stage processing to accommodate it. Using --max-old-space-size=1900 did help a bit. In case you're wondering, here's a test case: https://gist.github.com/1148761 https://gist.github.com/1148761 I was told by one of the V8 developers that the new GC is pretty usable now, so worth giving it a shot if you need more than 2 Gb.
