Here we go again... Look, this is the bottom line - it depends. There is a thing called TCO - total cost of ownership. If you don't calculate all of the costs associated with cloud vs vps vs bare metal then you're doing the analysis WRONG.

Absolutely, but there's a frequent misconception that the cloud has less management overhead even though most shops will still end up with one or more DevOps engineers on payroll.
