Interesting. It sounds like a demographic catastrophe. If one group doesn't have babies, for whatever reason(s), people elsewhere who have large families will effectively replace them (not in the racist paranoia sense). And their family tree ends with them. Not my cup of tea, but to each, their own.
I'm 43, over-educated, no kids yet (that I know of), and settling in the medium-term. I've been dating mostly college students for the past 20 years (small violin humble flex), but I really don't care about age so long as their personality is awesome (hilarious, chill, sensible, and fun), suitable to coupling (stable, present, teamwork, loving and lovable, and makes plans), and their anticipated trajectory isn't going to be held back or grow apart in 10 years.
Anecdotal sample-size of yo!, but I continue to find it curious they're fine with serious age gap relationships. Maybe I'm kidding myself, but it doesn't appear to be about novelty, sex, money, or social status so much as fun, stability, and availability. I think I can point to one reason, also anecdotally: It's like pulling teeth to get a FAANG dude about 27 to go out because he's playing online video games every night. Apropos book: Man, Interrupted (2016) by Philip Zimbardo (Stanford Prison Experiment and countless community college TV psych lectures) and Nikita Coulombe.
There's also the death of live interaction (strangers and acquaintances), which I think is far worse. Go anywhere in America, and a large fraction of people look like sad sack, schizoid zombies even before -19. This pervasive form of anti-eusociality dooms a large swath of people to be losers in life, i.e., have fewer friends, fail to learn something that could help them, lose business opportunities, and miss out on love and on life. What a shame.
