I'm all for what you say, but Dark Reader is so useful I'm willing to make an exception. Plus it's open source. I've set up my Manjaro system so that with one shortcut (and automated at sundown) I can change everything to dark mode. And since Dark Reader has the option to follow the system dark mode, everything works wonderfully.
