ASCII Pronunciation Rules for Programmers
- ttymck 5y agoA useful read. I was hoping for combination pronunciations as well (often found in functional programming): rocket =>, arrow ->, etc
- ukoki 5y ago{} squigglies () smoothies [] squaries <> pointies
- riggsdk 5y agoSome (direct) Danish translations: !: Outcry-sign (Udråbstegn) “: Goose-eyes (gåseøjne) #: Square or “garden fence” (firkant/havelåge) - yes, some people call C# “C garden fence”) {}: Tuborg clamps/brackets - or - tipped over Tuborg (Tuborgklammer/væltet Tuborg) As in the Beer. It is actually recommended to call them that by the national Danish language association. @: “Trunked A” (snabel-a) as in an A with an elephant trunk
- smackeyacky 5y agoThe different characters known as "splat" ( i.e. # and *) always confused me, I figured they must have come from different programming environments. My first boss called them hash and star, rather than something truly strange like "glob" which I understand came from "globbing" i.e. searching (reflecting it's use as a wildcard in a lot of systems) but I've never heard anybody say or use it in real life like that.
