- jprd 5y agoThis was one of the most "WTF?!" pieces I've read in a long time. I live in the region, 1-2 degree separation from several impacted. I read the dead tree version while flipping through the mail, floored me. Great reporting here, the kind that motivates others to investigate as well.
- ehvatum 5y agoThe FBI needs oversight with teeth, and not to be used as a political tool. “ Chris Tague, a genial Republican assemblyman from Schoharie, burst into tears when I called. Like many in Schoharie, Tague has been traumatized by the crash, but between sobs, he made it clear: The Hussains and the FBI were a no-go area.” That is what political weaponization looks like: the creation of an untouchable class of king-making, incompetent praetorian guard.
- beerandt 5y agoHe's telling a reporter that it's a no-go topic for the interview, not as statement as to them being politically untouchable, even if they were. This is potentially a grossly misleading quote, as you frame it, whether your realize it or not. I agree with your broader point. It just has nothing to do with what you quoted, but reads as if it does.
