- kcplate 5y agoPre-pandemic average life expectancy was lower than that. https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/lifeexpectancies/bulletins/nationallifetablesunitedkingdom/2017to2019 https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsde... I realize it’s not really apples to apples, but I think there is a statistical argument to be made that these folks were already above the curve. Age was a factor as much as Covid. I suspect 20 years from now statistics are going to pretty much show that excess deaths across any 5-10 year period that covers 2020-2022 are going to pretty minimal. Covid seems to have a tendency to more accelerate death than outright cause it. Younger deaths with no underlying cause may be a more effective measure I think of pure Covid deadliness.
