Every time I get a raise I make a one time splurge purchase and then look at ways to reduce my periodic spending. Cancel subscriptions, re-play old games, that sort of thing. I figure my spending will naturally rise again (always has, anyway) but not as high as it would have if I let it if I wasn't so cautious.
