- vba616 5y agoNothing wrong with being a contrarian, per se, but this jumped out at me: "They drilled mercury into my teeth when I was a child. Now, of course, we don't do that anymore, but do you really think in 50 years people will look back and say, 'Oh, yeah, we had it all figured out in 2022'? No, they will be appalled at things we're doing right now." As of 2017, the EPA stated that mercury from dentists' offices was the main source of mercury discharges into public sewage treatment plants. They estimate over 100,000 dental offices "use or remove amalgam" that contains mercury. The total amount of waste is estimated at over 5 tons. The EPA would really like it if dentists could please install mechanisms to separate out the mercury from other waste.
