There should be a regular garbage collection for rules and laws
- Khelavaster 5y agoThe Trump administration was the best at reducing old laws in a very long time.
- MattGaiser 5y agoPart of the problem is that you would rapidly end up with no laws in many areas. Congress fails to address vast swaths of its responsibilities as it is for lack of time.
- hubraumhugo 5y agoYes, that's the conclusion of the thread: "Complexity. There's an extraordinary amount of work that went into drafting treaties and agreements. You don't discard what you have without having a clear idea of what would be better. So people have thought of this idea, but they concluded that it is impractical."
- salawat 5y agoThe entire point of the exercise is to make sure legislatures don't become disconnected with their peers consequences and decision making, only making law that stands the test of time. A one off "now it's the law forever" is just a bureaucratic tyranny in slow motion". It absolutely floors me that with as flawed as we are day to day, we have the hubris to assume we got all the laws we've passed right; especially when half of them get crammed into Omnibus Acts.
