Saris, Lehengas and Why Carrie Bradshaw Should Know the Difference
- Tabular-Iceberg 5y agoAll kinds of shops have more diverse offerings than their colloquial names indicate. My local drug store sells cosmetics. My local butcher sells cheese. My grocery store sells hardware. My hardware store sells hot dogs. If someone says “sari store” it doesn’t mean that they think that they only sell saris. This is just obnoxious pedantry.

Could have easily just been Wedding Clothes Store, or "Traditional Indian dress" they got very specific when they probably didn't need to to advance the storyline. in your example I could have gone to those stores or said walmart/target/shopco/fred meyers and it would have satisified all of your arguments. But i wouldn't go to the Nuts and Bolts store to get hotdogs, or to the butchers for nuts and bolts (nuts maybe... ) Plus isn't she a fashion writer in the show? she could spout off dozens of styles of shoes by their proper names, so it wouldn't be far fetched to know the difference between a couple of styles of dress
