I'm curious to know why you don't think they are comparable. I'll be interested to see the same comparison done for Omicron as to Delta or Original or combo, it looks like major hits were taken all across the board in terms of effective fast acting antibody. I am hoping natural immunity will once again rise above its underdog status, and that's not just from my own personal stake in arguing those points but because I really think its a sign that over time this will fade and perhaps rather quickly now.
Why you'd make the comparison is to prove the epidemiological point that a naturally immune person might consider themselves unduly burdened by force vaccination.

- Arnt 5y agoBecause death and long covid disturb the comparison. Consider long covid. The differences they report are small enough that if having long covid protects against getting covid, that's enough to explain the entire difference. But in that case the headline is nearly meaningless. In that case it says (I'm oversimplifying here) "already suffering from brain fog protects you from the disease that causes brain fog". Well, duh. Does long covid provide 1% protection and the past infection 99%? Or is it 50/50? Or 99/1? Comparing first and second infections doesn't give enough data to answer that. If you compare vaccinated and unvaccinated people who've both been through the same number of infections, then you have enough data to distinguish between the effects of past illness and present lingering illness. But because they compare second infections with first, they cannot.
- peteradio 5y agoI think advising infection over vaccination to immune naive person is not what should be done, I bet we agree there. Is that your main concern, that this will be twisted to advise immune naive people away from vaccine? I really just don't see the problem with the comparison because people with vaccine have better rights than those with prior infection and yet here we see its meritless to accuse these people of not pulling their weight (reducing spread and staying out of hospital). Interestingly there is a comparison of recovered to recovered+vaxxed and the additon of vaxxed really doesn't seem to be improving these important metrics meaningfully. Whether someone may or may not have long covid should have no bearing on their rights.
