AMD Removes ‘4GB VRAM Is Not Enough for Games’ Hours Before RX6500XT 4GB Launch
- c0balt 5y agoI would've expected for them to change to be "4 GB VRAM is not enough for 1440p Games" and marketing the new card for 1080P. Though I guess removing this marketing statement completely avoids publicly stating that it is a compromise directly.
- stevefan1999 5y agoI have a GTX 1060 6GB before, and 1080p performance was barely enough, especially for games like PUBG, I have to set everything to Low graphics settings to get a decent 60fps. Strangely enough for Fortnite it can run Ultra for 100fps most of the time (90% of the time outside battle). Maybe at the end of the day, it depends on optimizarion I guess?
- rasz 5y agoAt least its not fake 4GB like Nvidia sold 3 gens ago :) https://www.pcgamer.com/why-nvidias-gtx-970-slows-down-using-more-than-35gb-vram/ https://www.pcgamer.com/why-nvidias-gtx-970-slows-down-using...
- southerntofu 5y agoI have no idea about the games you mentioned specifically, but there's no reason you couldn't have a 1080p scene rendered at 60fps with way less resources than this, given proper optimization.
- rasz 5y agoI really like PCIE x4 making this GPU unsuitable as an upgrade for older computers. And the fact most manufacturers decided to slap 3 huge Fans on it to make it look like serious card.
- Havoc 5y agoIt is clocked high so lots of fans does make sense. Just the bandwidth and ram that’s crap
- rasz 5y agoIts 100W TDP, you know what else was 100W TDP? ATI Radeon HD 4850 from 14 years ago https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/radeon-hd-4850.c493 https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/radeon-hd-4850.c493
- PlanckMeasure80 5y agoMy 6970 was so loud with its single, tiny fan, I never bought another AMD card.
- rasz 5y agoOne fan and 250W TDP is crazy. Even 170W GTX760 with same reference cooling was a hot loud mess. But here we are talking less power dissipation than 2007 GeForce 8800. Those even came in single slot thin fan configurations, with afaik not a single manufacturer going for more than two slot one fan.

- fomine3 5y agoI don't know how much cost and parts (especially what in shortage) reduced by reducing PCIe lanes to x4, but it's acceptable if it's reasonable. Adding unnecessary cooling component definitely adds cost and parts, it's totally not reasonable.
- captainbland 5y agoThey probably should have kept it there, everyone has already ascertained that the 6500 XT is a big disappointment.
