Central business district neighborhoods are generally wealthy and they tend to have some of the highest property crime rates outside of low-income neighborhoods. And it’s not because CBD’s are poor. Professional criminals understand it’s most profitable to steal where the money is.
- nopenopenopeno 5y agoWhat is your point? I didn’t assume they live and work in a “central business district.”
- jdavis703 5y agoYou said they live in the “wealthy” part of the city. The point being, even in wealthy places like Manhattan in NYC or SoMa in SF there’s plenty of petty crime. In other words, crime is not exclusive to non-wealthy neighborhoods.
- nopenopenopeno 5y agoBut a lack of crime is exclusive to wealthy neighborhoods.
- s1artibartfast 5y agoThis isn't true. There are many poor communities where enforcement is effective and theft and crime are low too. It is all about the expectation of consequences and community standards.
- nopenopenopeno 5y agoAn example? I don’t believe you.
- s1artibartfast 5y agoPick any small town where thieves can't hide, and you will see the deterrent influence in effect.
- nopenopenopeno 5y agoThat’s not an example. I still don’t believe you.
- esyir 5y agoIn my part of the world, pretty crime is low despite massive income disparity, regardless of neighbourhood wealth.
