Both adenovirus and mRNA vaccine platforms were flouted for their capacity to adapt on the fly to new variants. And here we are boosting for the same original strain seen over 2 years ago. Yes if you throw everything but the kitchen sink at the virus, something will stick, but that certainly doesn’t seem like a very effective measure for the long term (and as demonstrated by the already diminishing returns, improbable)
- nojokes 5y agoIt worked fine till omicron. It was totally fine and kicked delta ass. But there are limits how much you could beat out of the immune system with the same vaccine. It is completely surprising we even got this far but delta was not that much different virus, just had higher viral load. Omicron is totally different https://www.economist.com/science-and-technology/the-case-for-updating-covid-19-vaccines-for-the-omicron-variant/21807136 https://www.economist.com/science-and-technology/the-case-fo... The fact that we can limits its transmission and reduce illness is a gift but really expecting current vaccines to do more is just too greedy.
- josephcsible 5y ago> It was totally fine and kicked delta ass. But didn't we originally get to stop wearing masks after being vaccinated, and then delta is what made us all have to start wearing them again despite being vaccinated?
- navjack27 5y agoNo. Always had to stay masked. Politics removed and money removed. The best way to just end this is to simply: get every vaccine or booster that comes out. Limit exposure entirely. Only leave your house for essentials. Mask when around people outside your immediate home. Everyone can do that last one. Pretty much everyone can do the first one. The hard one for the wider population is the 2nd one.
