I have experienced the "circuit breaker" and seen others go through the same. It appears to be part of the shock reaction that stops us from freezing. I have lost both parents, a relative to MND and two friends to ODs. In every case the sense unreality was the initial reaction. Helped me to remain functional at the time and then with time the waves of grief came.
