I live in the UK here and I have no problem with the police or government being able to read my WhatsApp messages - provided there is sufficient judicial oversight (i.e. they can convince a judge there’s sufficient evidence I’m doing something criminal).
They can already get a warrant to go through my underwear drawer, tap my phone or read my snail mail.
Why would chat messages be different?
- drexlspivey 5y agoDo you think that you should have the right to talk to someone in person without the government tapping into that? If so why chat messages should be different?
- grumpymouse 5y agoIf the police can prove to a court that there’s evidence somebody’s committing a serious crime I’m fine with them listening to people talk in person. For example, if it really looked like I were trafficking drugs it would be fine to send somebody to follow me and listen to me talk to people
