You can’t replace the feel of turning a real page
- thecrumb 5y agoI haven't read a real book in years. I'm not killing trees. I can bring along loads of 'books' with me everywhere I go without breaking my back. I can read them in the dark. And I could care less about 'turning the page'
- ContrarianBrit 5y agoAgree! I love Kindle.
- meristohm 5y agoAnd that’s okay. It’s about the story. Used to be we experienced stories by voice, for example we return from a hunt, recounting highlights and rehearsing along the way, and tell it to the rest of our group after sharing the meat. I read via TTS (still looking for a flawless option), audiobooks (converted to 24kbps mono .opus for smaller size), .epub on Kobo (with KOReader and Plato, preferring the former so far, but Plato does load books more quickly), and text on paper. As I get older and more accepting of death, I let go of the things I once held so dear. I see books as a luxury, and when I’m too blind to read from a page, and/or too deaf to hear narration, I’ll probably still have touch and smell and some memory for context.
