Seeing the OPs question, I'd might add another feature which I feel is tricky.
Backup of data is pretty simple (I guess most HN user could easily make an simple upload/backup app for photos quite easily).
- But what about searching...
That moment when you're looking for a specific moment or latest photos of your dog? or pool to find a specific pool.
- Dupe detection.
Those unique features that for example, Dropbox is an inferior tool for the job.

- BLKNSLVR 5y agoShit yeah, curation is much more time consuming than backup. As true for family photos and videos as it is for music, movies, and TV shows. I put photos and videos in separate folders, and then subfolder for year, subfolder for month. Within the per-month folders I rename those photos / videos from their defaults to something that describes their content, eg: "Daughter cracking the shits in egg and spoon race" Or "Daughter getting chased by duck". The ones we want to re-live. This takes long time reviewing each and every photo and video though. I'm only up to 2014...
