Universal basic income could come to California colleges

- friendlydog 5y agoNot universal. It is payment only to lower income students. Universal would be all students regardless of income status.
- throwawaysea 5y agoI get a paywall, but my main question is why? We don’t need as many college educated students as we are producing today. There’s no need to incentivize it further. So is this just vote bank politics at work?
- robbedpeter 5y agoFailed or grotesque implementations of ubi would be useful for people who don't want it. California is also bonkers with bureacracy. Nobody in charge has the slightest clue what they're doing, everyone just has checklist items to tick off, then money gets shuffled from point a to point b and they claim success. UBI works as a concept only if it's universal. If it's shuffling money from taxpayers to non-taxpayers, it's something entirely different.
- throway453sde 5y agoSure dude. Make sure you children's never get educated, that would solve all the problem. We need lesser education.
- asteroidbelt 5y agoWe need more stem education, but not as much arts or political science
- netizen-936824 5y agoWe definitely need the arts, political science I'm not so sure about

- throwaway946513 5y agoConsidering that music, shows, movies, images, paintings and other cultural representations exist, then I fail to see how 'the arts have been a complete abortion'. "Contributes nothing to civilization" - yet we fetishize Roman, Greek, and 'typical "good" artwork'.
- netizen-936824 5y agoPerhaps if we had more a more educated populace, people would stop electing clowns who lie to them. On both sides, its clowns all around

- dehrmann 5y ago> “College students are couch surfing and sleeping in their cars. This could be enough money to rent a room, and if you don’t need a room, by all means, use it for what you do need it for,” Cortese said in an interview. > Campuses under consideration for the pilot program include CSU Los Angeles; San Francisco State; CSU East Bay; San Jose State and Fresno State. Aren't all but Fresno State mostly commuter schools?
