Walmart appears to be getting serious about the metaverse
- henrikschroder 5y agoRaise your hand if you remember when large companies were buying property in Second Life, and there were breathless articles about our glorious new VR future.
- streetcat1 5y agometaverse = VR. I.e. VR is the leading indicator to the metaverse (somewhat like the iphone = Without proper hardware, there will be no software).
- uejfiweun 5y agoI think an absolute minimum barrier to widespread adoption of XR is the clunky uncomfortable headsets. They are an absolute nightmare to wear for any longer than a half hour. Until the headsets have the same form factor and weight as a pair of sunglasses, I don't think the "metaverse" is going to impact anyone's lives beyond news articles. And even then, there's a long way to go before XR becomes as convenient as a screen. I'd love for XR to take off in a big way, it would be heroin for my inner nerd who has wanted a HUD ever since I played Metroid Prime as a kid. But I try to stay realistic.
