No, but that's a huge factor for many people. Or, more accurately, the promise of future performance.
It's a bit like the stock market. People don't invest in the Ford Motor Company because they saw past performance, but because past performance dictates future performance.
Even though I'm not particularly fond of what Apple has become, they seem to create reliably performant hardware, and I anticipate it's how many people consistently feel about Apple. It requires someone else more trustworthy to enter the market to change the balance of trust.
