- moistly 5y agoThat’s the reason China’s media keeps giving us: it’s for the olympics. Seems like a heck of a stretch to me. China has already hosted an olympics. They’ve had their 1936 moment. And for the past twenty months everyone has understood that the 2022 games would not be the usual circus. The events are being held in other cities and will be attended only by a select few ultra-privileged CCP supporters and foreign dignitaries (see story below) … common foreigners are banned, the general citizenry is banned, no one in Xi’an was ever getting near the olympics. Beijing’s excuse for lockdown is BS. The CCP is scared shitless of this virus. https://www.si.com/olympics/2022/01/17/beijing-winter-olympics-2022-tickets-limited-covid-19 https://www.si.com/olympics/2022/01/17/beijing-winter-olympi... I have to say I’m surprised you subscribe to the CCP’s framing of their lockdowns.
- ipspam 5y agoI've made no comment about the morality, legality, or other stick with which to measure. This is simply a dick wagging contest, and the better China does, the more the western elites will be envious of China's ability to exert total control on its population. I don't think this is a good thing. It's just how I see it as it happens. The obvious answer is to buy local, buy once (quality), and make a small effort to keep a list of bad companies to not support. Whether that list is just China companies, leftist companies, DEI companies, or just companies that play politics, you have more power than you know. Losing 4% of sales is a big deal, especially if that money is going to more worthy companies.
