how about the color of negative temperatures?
- BenjiWiebe 5y agoIf an absolute lack of all energy is 0, a negative temperature is kinda hard to reason about.
- robin_reala 5y agoNegative temperatures are a thing, but you need to reframe temperature from inherent heat to energy flow between systems. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negative_temperature https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negative_temperature
- contravariant 5y agoAssuming Planck's law still holds it should start absorbing radiation instead. That said Planck's law derives from Gibb's distribution and applying that rule to it suggests it immediately radiates all energy, until it stops having a negative temperature so I'm not sure if negative temperature is compatible with thermal radiation.
