SA: We Have an Obesity Problem in This Country
- paulpauper 5y agoI don't think the war on obesity is winnable, unlike efforts to prevent smoking. In spite of social stigma, shrinkflation, more gyms, more awareness about the negative heath effects of of obesity, etc., people just keep getting fatter. I think what is happening is food is providing meaning to peoples lives that would other wise be empty, and covid had made this worse.
- Arnt 5y agoWell… if I go a few km east from where I live, it's easy to find a free parking spot. Westwards, not at all. A supermarket chain has a shop westwards from me, with parking for two cars, and a similarly sized shop eastwards, with parking for perhaps 20, I don't know. The difference in the number of obese people is also noticeable.

Adamson on December 19, 2012 > Variously, despite no actual evidence of causation, soda and even diet soda are claimed to be responsible for heart attacks, stroke, asthma, COPD and even death. > In 1994, Dr. Adamson joined the American Beverage Association (ABA), formerly the National Soft Drink Association, as Vice President for Scientific and Technical Affairs. He retired from ABA in December 2004, but remains a consultant on scientific and regulatory matters.
