the old night persists in spaces where the light of the world had gone out -- underground, in caves and tunnels. interestingly enough, those are the spaces we traditionally associate with hell.

- marsa 5y agothat is true, though i don't think clear night skies and light pollution were what OP was going for -- for me it was more about the experience of pitch black darkness under OP's bed cover and the religious undertones of the essay.
