- SomeHacker44 5y agoI got a discrete TPM for my desktop. This way I can take it with me or move it to a new machine if I want.
- ThePowerOfFuet 5y agoWhich model?

- ChuckNorris89 5y agoYou can bypass the TPM and CPU restriction by doing a fresh install off a USB drive. It's basically a non issue at this point. The FUD around TPM is massively blown out of proportion, which is frightening considering the HN is supposed to be a tech savvy userbase driven by facts rather than FUD. TPM is basically a secure enclave for highly sensitive private keys, similar to what the T2 did on the Macs. It's much safer to have important private keys stored there than on disk and in system memory where they're in reach of basic exploits like Mimikatz or Javascript vulns coming from your browser.
- kyriakos 5y agoIf I am not mistaken if you follow that route your OS won't receive updates. At least thats what was been said, if thats no longer the case then its really good news for older PCs too.
- ChuckNorris89 5y agoYou are mistaken. I have no restrictions post installation. All updates work flawlessly. Talking from first hand experience, not "what's been said".
