Cloud storage for social media app
I'm looking to make a social media app with flutter. With a news feed that potentially have a lot of videos(short and long). While choosing a backend solution firebase seems ideal in terms of simple document database but the storage may be in the 100 Gb per month.
I'm also looking to move away from Firebase if the app takes off and backblaze seems to have very interesting pricing as well.
What would you advice, please?
- geoah 5y ago<rant> Personally I’d be more worries about bandwidth. If you expect 100Gb per month or more, I’d expect your downloads to be at the very least 10x that amount. Backblaze which indeed is the cheaper sells storage for $0.005 per Gb/month but charges for downloads at $0.01 per Gb. You could put something like cloudflare infront of your storage to allow it to cache these files but going for backblaze also has the sideeffect that if you decide to do on the fly transcode or streaming your will need to pay for bandwidth both to your cloud provided and backblaze.
- Silfalion 5y agoI see. That's quite a lot of to pay for. Since it's a social media app there would be quite the streaming of content. I've just found about wasabi for hosting but now that you pointed it out Venmo or api.video seem to be better options here.

- Silfalion 5y agoWow, I just checked bunny stream(if anyone needs this too, look for bunny stream, not just the simple CDN) and it’s the cheapest CDN+storage I ever found these last days. And encryption is free.thank you.
- 3000 5y agoyeah, i should have said "stream" as well, thats what im using. its awesome. also, you mean encoding, not encryption :)
