  I've experimented with warp drives in theory and simulation, and what they could theoretically do is to "scale" the space so that every item in space appear to be closer to you so you just have to walk 10/30th of the distance to reach 30/30 of the distance. |---o------o------------o------| normal distance |o--o---o--| warped distance o = objects you might bump into. So you will be traveling the same "speed" relative to the objects, but they will be closer.
