Building American Dynamism
- ericmay 5y agoI agree with a lot of this but definitely disagree/challenge the perpetual meme of America “abandoning Afghanistan”. The mistake was going in the first place. The next mistake was staying. I haven’t deployed to Afghanistan but did to Iraq. Many of my friends served in Afghanistan. It was a lost cause and staying there was exactly what failed American dynamism would be. It’s exactly what a failed institution would do. Unfortunately nation building in Afghanistan was and always would have been a failed endeavor. Nothing short of colonizing Afghanistan and making it an American state ala Vietnam in the HBO Watchmen show would have sufficed. A lot of the mainstream media (which doesn’t have even the slightest clue) believes that any American change in troop location means a “loss”. This is incorrect. Geopolitically (and it’s disgusting that it had to happen) leaving an unstable Afghanistan was actually really bad for American geopolitical rivals such as Iran, Pakistan, and China. Biden may lose the election over it, but he made the right, and difficult call to withdraw from Afghanistan. We didn’t need to keep spending money there. It was a double down on a failed product.
