Is it a emacs clone or a TeX ide? There are already excellent TeX modes available for Emacs without using a standalone application. Despite being a Emacs and TeX user, I must admit that I have no clear idea of what this strangely named thing is. And since it sounds like it implements parts of both, probably poorly if the bizarre naming is any indication of other development decisions, I have no inclination to explore it.

It's neither. It's more like Microsoft Word but with high quality output for scientific/math documents.
