I couldn't disagree more. My life is permanently ruined because i followed this strategy. The problem with buying things, is that at some point you no longer own the things, the things own you. I am trapped in my situation by owning things for which i cannot divest myself of, and am paying dearly for. Buying experiences are definitely consumptive, and lost, but you stop paying for them once finished.

Things that can be bought can be sold again. Modulo sunk-cost-fallacy.

  Spoken like a well off person. It often costs money, a good bit of money to sell things. You can easily get into a situation where you can't afford to do so.
