Aha, I'm not crazy!
Early on in the pandemic, I commented to a friend that I thought that most people looked more attractive wearing a mask. She laughed at the sentence itself (it's definitely a comical thing to say), but then refuted my assertion, saying that she didn't find it to be true.
Now it seems like I'm not the only one. Perhaps it's because peoples' mouths are a bit weird?

Or, perhaps it's because mouths are hidden, and most people don't smile a lot in public. Remember that thread a few days ago about that student taking hidden photographs in the 1980's, and how a bunch of HNers commented that wow, people sure smiled more back then[1]? Maybe it isn't the case that faces are more intrinsically attractive with masks, but just that they hide the frowns (or blank stares at phones, I don't know) that one would see otherwise.
